Starting Point

An Opportunity for two new curators

The Contemporary Art Society, with Southampton City Art Gallery, are inviting proposals from curating and museum studies students from across the UK (must have graduated between 2008 - 2011). Starting Point will offer two curators the opportunity to select a small cluster of works from the collection to be installed as pasrt of Southampton City Art Gallery's public programme in 2011.

Arguably the most outstanding collection of modern and contemporary art outside of London, Southampton City Art Gallery have generously offered their support in provinding access to the collection for this great opportunity for new curators.

As a way of responding we are asking that proposals take the collection of artist film at Southampton as an initial Starting Point. We are looking for proposals that demonstrate a dynamic and new approach to thinking about the collection at Southampton City Art Gallery and should be clear in their approach, while being sensitive to the conditions of the collection.

To apply for the opportunity, please submit a CV and short proposal (around 300 words) outlining your project to: robert -at- contemporaryartsociety.org

Application deadline 6th September 2010

For more information, including details on the collections, visit the CAS website.
