Curatorial Internship
Artes Mundi, Cardiff
Part-time, 1-2 days per week on a regular basis for up to six months
Unpaid, local travel expenses and (if working a full day) reasonable lunch expenses will be covered.

Artes Mundi is looking for someone who intends to make a career in the visual arts to work as an intern alongside the Artes Mundi team. A busy programme of activity will provide experience of the sector and opportunities to acquire practical skills that will improve your chances of finding future employment. The intern will assist the Artistic Director, contributing to the curatorial and administrative aspects of the organisation. You will be passionate about contemporary visual art, enthusiastic about helping to engage the public through the Artes Mundi programme and up for a challenge!

This position would benefit someone who has recently graduated or is currently undertaking their undergraduate studies in the creative arts/industries. It would be particularly beneficial to an individual with an interest in curating contemporary visual art.

Opportunity - Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open

The Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open is now accepting submissions for its 2012 edition. This unique opportunity invites creative professionals from all fields to imagine and realise projects involving works from a contemporary art collection of international repute.

The Zabludowicz Collection launched its annual Curatorial Open in 2010 to encourage and support experimental curatorial practice. The Open invites creative professionals from all fields to engage with the collection by imagining ambitious projects which include a public exhibition, a publication and a programme of events to be realised in July and August 2012 at the Zabludowicz Collection in London. The Curatorial Open seeks to actively engage new voices in the discussion around works in the Zabludowicz Collection, encouraging points of view from a variety of disciplines and transcending the existing confines of contemporary art curating. The Zabludowicz Collection keenly welcomes transdisciplinary and experimental proposals.

This initiative builds on the Zabludowicz Collection’s existing commitment to experimental curatorial practices, which has resulted in projects with international curators and curating students, including Proposal for a Floor in New York with Alex Gartenfeld, The Library of Babel / In and Out of Place with Anna-Catharina Gebbers in 2010, Past-Forward with Vincent Honoré in 2008 and the annual Testing Ground programme produced in collaboration with the MA curating students from the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths College, London.

Deadline for submissions: 1 November 2011. Winner announced: January 2012.

The Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open is presented in association with Art Review.

The Zabludowicz Collection is dedicated to bringing emerging art to new audiences and actively supporting arts organisations and artists. It was founded by Poju and Anita Zabludowicz in 1994, and contains over 2,000 works by over 500 artists, spanning 40 years of art production, with a focus on art from the late 20th century to the present day. Since 2007 the collection has run an exhibition space in a former Methodist Chapel at 176 Prince of Wales Road in north London, working with artists, curators and works in the Zabludowicz Collection to produce exhibitions which examine contemporary art practice and present the collection in a public forum. The collection also exhibits in permanent venues in the USA and Finland.

Open 2011 - Call for Submissions from Curators

Brighton Photo Fringe is pleased to launch Open 2011, an experimental open submission platform for both photographic artists and curators.
Open to everyone everywhere, Open 2011 will be an international platform that enables artists and curators to work together to explore the possibilities of photography and exhibition formats.

Selected curators will work with Mentor curator Charlotte Cotton (writer and curator, Creative Director, National Media Museum, London) to develop an exhibition in dialogue with the selected artists.

Opportunity - Starting Point (for UK-based recent graduates)

Starting Point is a new annual opportunity open to recent graduate curators to work with public collections of modern and contemporary art.

Each year we plan to work in partnership with a different museum from across the country to offer exhibition opportunities and curatorial experience to curators interested in working with public collections.

An Opportunity for Two Graduate Curators (2012-2013)

The Contemporary Art Society, with Leeds Art Gallery are inviting proposals from curating and museum studies graduates from across the UK who have been out of full time education for no longer than two years.

Starting Point, now in its second year, will offer two curators the opportunity to select a small cluster of works from the collection to be installed as part of Leeds Art Gallery’s public programme in 2012.

The Leeds Art Collection Fund (LCAF) has been supporting the visual arts in Leeds since 1912 to mark their centenary Leeds Art Gallery are planning a series of special events in the gallery over the course of next year. As a way of responding we are asking that proposals draw on the list of works whose acquisitions have been supported by the Leeds Art Collection Fund. Applications should be no more than 500 words and accompanied with a CV.

Applicants are selected on the basis of their first idea but we know that the research period can often have an impact on ‘first ideas’ so we are looking for potential and commitment.

Opportunity: Clinton Hill / Allen Tran Foundation Curator's Grants

The Clinton Hill / Allen Tran Foundation offers support to the critical early stages of exhibition planning in American museums.

Three grants of $5,000 each will be offered to curators contemplating exhibitions which include work by artists born between 1920 and 1960. Funds would be dedicated to travel, research materials (books; photographs; software, etc.) and other essential elements not typically budgeted by museums until an exhibition proposal is finally presented and officially approved.

The Foundation is not offering subvention of a curator's basic salary.

Reflecting the life and interests of Clinton Hill, strong preference will be given to exhibition proposals involving painting, sculpture and works on paper, especially those featuring paper as a primary medium.

The contemplated exhibition may not be one already scheduled by the home institution. It must have a projected opening within the next four years.

Eligibility
There is no age restriction for curators to apply.
No specific curatorial qualifications are necessary but you must have quantifiable experience in the field of curating on an international level, of at least 8 years standing.
You can originate from any country in the world. You are asked to state your nationality, place of birth and current country / countries of current residence on the application form.
You must be able to dedicate enough time to the Abraaj Capital Art Prize project and not be involved in any conflicting appointments from October 2011 – March 2012.

Obligations
Work directly with Abraaj Capital and/or its agent and the 5 chosen artists to ensure that all 5 art projects are produced and delivered by the deadline of Art Dubai, March 2012.
Prepare content for a catalogue on all 5 winning projects and the Abraaj Capital Art Prize 2012. This includes sourcing photographs and any necessary image permissions to accompany your writing. Content is due by March 31 2012.
At the request of Abraaj Capital and/or its agent, the Guest Curator shall personally appear at the event announcing the winners of the 2012 edition of the prize, the unveiling of the prize in March 212, the dates of such events to be stipulated by Abraaj Capital and/or its agent.
The guest curator shall be expected to make themselves available for interviews with the media at the request of Abraaj Capital and/or its agent.
During the 24-month period following the unveiling, at the request of Abraaj Capital and/or its agent the Guest Curator shall personally appear at up to three events to support the prize and participate in interviews and other media-related events.
The chosen guest curator will receive a set fee, paid in instalments. There is no application fee.

For one student currently enrolled in a post-secondary Museum Studies or Curatorial studies program, the Art Gallery of Ontario has an opportunity for an intern to learn about a range of project management activities.

For the length of this placement, the intern will aid the project manager in implementing the 2011 Grange Prize by promoting public engagement of the award and exhibition.

Specific activities include:

Assist project manager with the implementation of the Grange Prize website and exhibition
Assist project manager in artist residency research and development
Assist curator in exhibition development through research and other related tasks
Assist project manager and curator in planning for the prize launch event
Assist project manager in the development of social media strategies

The ideal candidate for the position of Grange Prize Intern for the department of Curatorial Affairs will possess the following qualifications, skills and abilities:

Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Museum Studies or Curatorial studies program
Knowledge of theories surrounding public engagement with art
Have used a Content Management Systems (CMS) and/or blog, such as Wordpress, and have knowledge of basic HTML
Attention to detail
Well-developed research and writing skills
Knowledge of MS Office, especially MS WORD and MS EXCEL
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The student selected for the internship will acquire professional experience in project planning and event planning through involvement in exhibition projects, including a variety of initiatives in addition to the Grange Prize. The intern will learn about ways in which museums can serve broad and diverse communities and will receive instruction on working with various stakeholders, including artists and sponsors. Opportunity - Curatorial Residencies in Helsinki, deadline May 1

Helsinki International Curatorial Programme organised by HIAP - Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme and FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange currently offers curatorial residencies in Helsinki for international visual arts curators.

The aim of the programme is to provide curators with an opportunity to carry out research on Finnish fine art, to build contacts with Finnish art practitioners and cultural organisations and to develop international curatorial projects involving Finnish participants.

The programme is open to curators worldwide with professional experience in organising visual arts projects.

Curatorial residencies include the cost of travel to and from Helsinki with a grant for living expenses, studio accommodation, residency services and administrative support. Practical assistance for the participant's curatorial project are provided by HIAP and FRAME. A small public event (e.g. workshop, lecture, open meeting) will also be organised during the residency. The curator will have access to an extensive collection of Finnish artist portfolios at the FRAME office.

The length of the curatorial residency is usually one calendar month.

APPLICATIONS:
Applications are accepted throughout the year. The jury reviewing the applications meets at least twice a year. Applications should be sent by November 1st or May 1st to qualify for review at the following meeting.

Applications should include presentation materials of the applicant's previous projects, a curriculum vitae, a working plan for the residency period and a proposal for a public event to be organised during the residency.

Applications should be submitted by post. Please note that all electronic material should be compatible with Mac computers and readable by common office software. Application materials are not returned.

HAUS DER KULTUREN DER WELT invites up-and-coming curators to apply for SYNAPSE – The International Curators’ Network at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Moderated by international curators, scientists and other experts, the first network meeting of SYNAPSE will focus on the interactions between science and art. Among other questions, it will address how scientific topics can be approached by curators. In interdisciplinary workshops, ten selected SYNAPSE curators and the five winning curators of Meridian I Urban.Curatorial Projects on Health will generate new project ideas. Visits to galleries, museums, and project and exhibition spaces will connect SYNAPSE participants with the vibrant Berlin art scene.

Each participant will receive a travel subsidy of up to €500. Haus der Kulturen der Welt will support the participants in seeking additional funding and will provide board and lodging for the duration of the workshop.

A project in cooperation with the 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art 2011.

The TRANSITORY NETWORK PUBLIC FORUM (Belgrade, 22- 24 July), is now accepting research papers. Social Scientists, Cultural Researchers, Art Managers, Curators, Artists and anyone interested in the topic are encouraged to apply. Creative research and performative presentations are especially welcomed.

Transitory Art is a concept that responds to the necessity to map out a specific landscape of creative and research practices that responds to the contexts and challenges proposed by globalization. This umbrella/concept tries to define the variety of artistic productions and research that are becoming increasingly representative of our multicultural and trans local era.

In order to discuss and present the Transitory Network, the Transitory Network Public Forum (TNPF) has been organized. The TNPF will be a platform, a knowledge sharing and a networking event that will take place in Belgrade during the 22nd and the 24th July 2011. The three days Forum will be hosted by the cultural organization Treci Beograd and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Belgrade (Serbia) and will be organized by MoTa - Museum of Transitory Art (Slovenia) in collaboration with Kitchen Budapest (Hungary) and CENATUS CIC London (UK). The Forum will comprehend presentations, debates, info platforms and public interventions.

Selected researchers will be invited to take part in the TRANSITORY NETWORK PUBLIC FORUM through presentations and participation in the debates and will have travel and accommodation expenses covered. Curatorial practice as it emerged during the twentieth century is being extensively recast. The tremendous change in the status of the object, of culture, of the various disciplines, or information and education, implies an inevitable transformation of the curator’s role and competencies. A renewed interest for curatorial practice has recently emerged within the field of architecture.

The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) is an international research centre and museum founded by Phyllis Lambert in 1979 on the conviction that architecture is a public concern. Based on its extensive Collection, exhibitions, programs, and research opportunities, the CCA is a leading voice in advancing knowledge, promoting public understanding, and widening thought and debate on architecture, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today.

Opportunity: Curatorial Assistant Internship, New York Photo Festival

Enrico Bossan, head of the photography department at Fabrica, and editorial director of Colors Magazine, and Elisabeth Biondi - Visuals Editor of the New Yorker - are seeking two curatorial assistant interns to help develop all aspects of their exhibitions for the New York Photo Festival 2011.

Interns will work closely with Bossan, Biondi, and Festival Director Sam Barzilay to coordinate artist participation, handle all necessary paperwork, manage digital content, and oversee production for each exhibition.

An exhibition catalog, a symposium and an accompanying book will also be developed around the curated exhibitions.

Prospective interns should have a strong background in event production or curatorial studies. Successful candidates will be self-driven, able to contribute to weekly brainstorm and discussion sessions, draft written materials and arrange logistics associated with project production work.

Ideal candidates for the Curatorial Assistant Internship have the following experience and qualities:

- A knowledge of and experience working in event production, curatorial projects, or similar environments. The ideal candidate will probably be a graduate student or post-graduate.

- An insatiable intellectual curiosity.

- Impeccable and efficient writing and editing abilities, with the ability to deliver quality texts and edits on deadline.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a small team.

Salary and Commitment: This is an unpaid, part-time position (at least 25 hours per week commitment, ramping up to a full time position in the month of May). Internships will start by mid-March and continue until June 2011.

The Norton Museum in West Palm Beach, Florida is accepting applications for the new position of Sophie Davis Curatorial Fellow which is funded by the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund, Inc. and dedicated to the research and exhibition of living women artists. This appointment is a three year, full time position for a graduate student knowledgeable in contemporary art and committed to further study of this field in the context of an institution. The successful candidate will work with, and report to, senior curatorial staff with primary responsibility for conducting research and facilitating the organization of a series of annual exhibitions devoted to the artwork of living women artists. The Fellow will also respond to ongoing curatorial projects. The Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience of the workings of the Museum and be responsible for initiating and organizing at least one exhibition for presentation at the Norton Museum. The Fellow will have the opportunity to travel and be expected to remain apprised of events in the field of contemporary art.

Job Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of essential methods to research contemporary art and artists; ability to write clearly and for a variety of audiences; familiarity with institutional procedures essential to the organization of exhibitions is helpful. Computer skills required include Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook; familiarity with the database The Museum System is beneficial. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are expected as is the ability to work independently.

Opportunity: Unsolicited Proposal Program at apexart

For the 14th year running, apexart is accepting submissions for the Unsolicited Proposal Program. The two winners will receive the funding and administrative support from apexart to mount a show in our Manhattan space.

apexart's Unsolicited Proposal Program asks for 600 word idea-based curatorial proposals that will be juried by more than 150 people from around the world. Submissions are reviewed anonymously and solely on the strength of the idea; no previous curatorial experience necessary.

The two winning exhibitions will be presented in our 2011-2012 season.
