As one of two curatorial assistants for Dublin Contemporary, the Curatorial Assistant Offsite (Public Realm / Offsite Spaces) will work with the Curatorial Manager and Lead Curators to assist in the production and delivery of all exhibitions in the public realm and offsite spaces.

The role demands previous experience curating for public, private or artist run organizations and an in-depth knowledge of managing large scale, complex installations in special, non-gallery venues. In addition, the role requires the designing, coordination and delivery of other ancillary events as required.

Within the specific exhibitions of the Public Realm and Off-site projects, the Curatorial Assistant will be in charge of:

- Project Management (weekly) of individual streams that are: Public Realm, Offsite Spaces and ancillary events. Drawing up specific project plans for each space and conduct site visits when necessary. Presentations of stream conducted each Friday to entire team.
- Administering of Artists Packs to include - budgets / architectural images / dimensions / specifications / special requirements / transportation requirements.
- Sourcing and itemising of equipment, materials and supplies as required per artists, working closely with the Technical Director and Curatorial Manager as well as relevant stakeholders such as Dublin City Council.
- Carry out and complete delegated tasks as directed by the Curatorial Manager with regards to logistics, security, registration and insurance of artworks commissioned and loaned, in a timely manner, accurate to the specifications of the Curatorial Manager and/or Lead Curators.
- Monitor artists progress to budget and manage expenditure to meet project and department budgets. Report to Curatorial Manager, Lead Curators and Project Director when requested.
- Oversee and negotiate the budget for the offsite venues including day-to-day management costs.
- Plan the installation and technical arrangements for offsite projects, suppling the technical team with the information related to the transportation of works.
- Liaise with the Education Office in planning and programming events including: screenings, performances and talks.
- Assist the internal team through open communication on all areas including sponsorship, education, marketing, pr and press activities.
- Manage artists in various aspects of their visit/installation and de-installation periods - providing continuous communication and updates where necessary.
- Draft and review contracts with the support of the Curatorial Manager and Project Director.
- Work closely with the curatorial department in realising the exhibition, maintaining the highest standard of communication and customer service and supporting all senior management staff.
- Present progress reports to senior management and internal team.
- Continually promote the DC2011 brand, positively communicating with artists, dealers, stakeholders, partners and company clients.

Education:
College Graduate with honours degree from an arts background. Minimum four years experience working in a visual arts organisation. Experience of project management and advanced technical know-how.

Knowledge and skills:
- Considerable knowledge of the contemporary art industry.
- Understanding and management of budgets and financial procedures.
- In-depth experience organising and planning complex and unique exhibitions.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to work to multiple deadlines.
- Keen negotiation and problem solving skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a large team, manage demanding situations and surmounting the challenges of a large-scale event.
- Ability to manage own workload and set priorities with little supervision.
- Knowledge of processes in art commissioning, loans, installations and de-installation.
- Knowledge of health and safety and procedures.
- Advanced computer skills in PC and MAC.
- Diplomacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills in at least one international language.

As Curatorial Assistant for Dublin Contemporary 2011, you will work with the Curatorial Manager and Lead Curators to assist in the delivery of all exhibitions at the following exhibition spaces: Earlsfort Terrace, The Annex and Iveagh Gardens.

Associate Curators:

The curatorial team for Dublin Contemporary will comprise of the Artistic Director, Project Curator and two experienced Associate Curators. Reporting to the Artistic Director, the right candidates will research and deliver the artistic programme and the publications, seminars, talks and discussions associated with it.

The associate curators will work with the project curator to ensure the timely and successful implementation of all aspects of the artists’ projects and installation of works. By necessity, the associate curators will work closely with production, technical, and where appropriate marketing and promotions.

Financial management and a keen knowledge of project delivery is essential, as is a comprehensive understanding of contemporary arts practice and a dynamic approach to the requirements of an artistic event on a major scale.

The Irish Museum of Modern Art wishes to appoint an Assistant Curator to its dynamic Exhibitions Department working on modern and contemporary projects. Applicants must have proven capabilities in all aspects of exhibition administration. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as is an ability to work as part of a team. A knowledge of modern and contemporary art is essential.

Salary range: € 22,911 to € 41,655 (11 point scale) exclusive of superannuation and € 24,117 to € 43,848 inclusive of superannuation. Salary commensurate with experience. The post is a 12 month fixed term contract (career break cover).
