CONTEXTE
Le nouveau programme d’expositions d’Artexte s’inspire de l’important fonds documentaire enrichi depuis 30 ans. Celui-ci rassemble catalogues d’expositions, publications d’artistes, dossiers d’artistes et périodiques publiés au Canada et ailleurs depuis 1965 et reflète un intérêt pour les approches critiques de la création, de l’exposition, de la recherche et de l’interprétation des arts visuels.

Le programme d’expositions vise à rendre compte des enjeux aussi multiples qu’inexplorés de l’édition et des écrits critiques, de la culture de l’imprimé, des réseaux d’information et des cyberinfrastructures.

Artexte dispose dans ses nouveaux locaux au 2-22, d’une salle d’exposition de 30 mètres carrés.

RESPONSABILITÉS
Le titulaire participe au développement de la programmation; planifie, produit et coordonne les expositions annuelles ainsi que le programme complémentaire; planifie et réunit les ressources humaines, matérielles et techniques nécessaires aux programmes; coordonne l’installation des expositions et des activités; réalise les outils interprétatifs; assure les communications; collabore à la préparation des demandes d’aide financière et aux rapports administratifs; assure la gestion de chaque projet.

COMPÉTENCES
Posséder une solide connaissance de l’art contemporain et de l’édition papier et numérique en art actuel; un intérêt marqué pour la production de nouveaux savoirs en lien avec la documentation des arts visuels au Canada et à l’étranger; faire preuve d’initiative, avoir la capacité de mener avec vitalité plusieurs dossiers à la fois. Le titulaire occupera un rôle clé dans le bon fonctionnement de l’organisme.

Détenir une maîtrise en histoire de l’art, communications, cultural studies, science de l’information, muséologie, ou l’équivalence; posséder au moins deux années d’expérience de coordination de projets dans un organisme artistique. Une parfaite maîtrise du français écrit et parlé et une bonne connaissance de l’anglais parlé et écrit sont essentiels.

The MIA seeks a creative, dynamic, and experienced Assistant/Associate Curator in the Department of Photography and New Media. Reporting to the Department Head, the curator is responsible for the care, research, exhibition, and study of over 11,500 photographs and media works in the collection. The curator will also have the unique opportunity to organize annual exhibitions in two gallery spaces and to develop an innovative series of collection catalogs.

The ideal candidate possesses an in-depth knowledge of the history of photography combined with a broad understanding of modern art, history, and culture; is an adventurous risk-taker who does not fear experimentation, and who enjoys challenging curatorial conventions and proposing ambitious projects. The successful candidate will be a congenial colleague who is open to new ideas and comfortable collaborating with curators, scholars, and artists from a variety of disciplines; thinks strategically and creatively about engaging diverse audiences through insightful scholarship, installation design, text, media, programming, and education.

Specific duties include:
Responsible for all aspects of research, planning, budgeting, organizing and implementing original exhibitions that inspire audiences to think about photography and its history in new ways.
Publish scholarly writings in catalogs and journals, and provide text for the New Pictures blog. Lecture on photography to diverse audiences, and represent the MIA at public events.
Work with the Head of Photography and New Media to publish a comprehensive collection catalog that offers a range of scholarly and artistic perspectives.
Collaborate with interdepartmental curators and Learning and Innovation to situate photography and new media throughout the MIA’s cross-cultural collection.

Requirements include:
Master’s degree in the field of photography, art history or related cultural fields (Ph.D. preferred); proven track record of organizing photography exhibitions and publications on photography and its related histories; at least three years’ museum and/or gallery experience; hands-on and historical knowledge of photography’s techniques and materials; knowledge of the art market, dealers, galleries, collectors, fellow professionals and other constituents in the field; ability to work independently and coordinate complex projects to completion; ability to write interpretive material for a diverse audience; significant art historical research skills and experience; excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills; team skills and ability to work effectively with staff, trustees and other vital contacts.

Responsibilities:

• The Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Phyllis C. Wattis MATRIX Curator is responsible for leading an internationally recognized, dynamic, and very active exhibition program of modern and contemporary art, including the MATRIX program which offers a rich and diverse sampling of significant local, national and international developments in all media and experimental forms.

• Based on original research, plans and conceptualizes exhibitions and other projects of international modern and contemporary art examining diverse topics and historical themes. Writes and edits scholarly materials that appeal to the broad range of museum visitors.

• Maintains ongoing, active professional relationships with artists, curators, and critics locally, nationally, and internationally. Regular engagement in programs, talks, symposia, and electronic media outside BAM/PFA.

• May supervise support staff and guest curators.

• Identifies acquisition and conservation priorities. May recommend works for de-accession and conduct relevant research.

• Collaborates with development staff on fundraising. Actively cultivates relationships with foundations, BAM/PFA Trustees, existing major and potential donors, collectors, and artists.

• Works with the education department to develop interpretive programs and materials, and to make exhibitions relevant to UCB coursework and diverse audiences. May present lectures and/or teach UCB courses. Actively engaged in BAM/PFA website and other digital outreach media, including BAM/PFA blog.

• May supervise guest programmers for L@TE, E@RLY, and other special programs.

• Plays a key role in long-range institutional planning efforts, such as establishing programmatic and collection development priorities, exhibition planning for the new building, conservation planning, and strategic planning.

• Develops and oversees relevant exhibition budgets.

• Holds a leadership role in the international modern and contemporary art field, through close working relationships with international curators and specialists, and through original scholarly research.


Qualifications:

• Advanced knowledge of and experience in museum curating, research, and collection development.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including the ability to communicate complex concepts about history, visual arts, and cultural practice to an audience that ranges from casual museum goers to academics.

• High-level cultivation and grant development experience.

• College-level teaching experience.

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse communities served, locally, nationally, and internationally.

• Intellectual curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for bringing scholarly research and distinctive visual arts programs to a broad public in accessible ways.

• Ability to collaborate internally and externally, and cultivate strong relationships with faculty, donors, and colleagues.

Job Description

The Curator works with the Senior Curator to manage the Museum’s permanent collection and exhibition program. Specific responsibilities are defined from year to year in consultation with the Senior Curator.

The Curator is responsible overseeing and or curating one or more special exhibitions each year, and for giving one or more public lectures as part of the Museum’s adult education program. This full-time position reports to the Senior Curator.

This position works in association with the Interim Chief Curator, Collections Manager, the Installation Manager, and the Education Program Manager.

Requirements

ASSOCIATE CURATOR

REQUIREMENTS

Education: M.A. or equivalent degree preferred

Experience: Museum curatorial or live event programming experience. Demonstrated initiative and discernment, as well as project management skills and experience managing junior staff.

Skills: Knowledge and competence to conceive, initiate, direct, and produce all manner of public and live event programming. Knowledge of basic office procedures and management skills. Knowledge of a foreign language, especially German, needed for project related work.

The MoMA PS1 Associate Curator will work closely with the Curator and the Director to develop, define and execute a program of live events and public programs at MoMA PS1.

Qualified candidates will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in curatorial or programming positions.

Candidates should possess superior judgment, high level of professionalism, initiative, and strong verbal and written communication capabilities. Candidate should have proven experience in managing a program of performances, events, and good computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Curator will:

-Oversee the organization and execution of all MoMA PS1 event programming, including recurring events (e.g. Warm Up music series) as well as workshops, artist lectures, performances and other special events.

-Work with the Curator and the Director to conceptualize a strategic, overarching, distinct institutional profile for live programming in the multidisciplinary context that the museum offers.

-Actively promote and nurture strong intra-institutional working relationships between curatorial, development, special events, and communications staff at both MoMA PS1 and The Museum of Modern Art.

-Manage junior curatorial and support staff involved in the production of the events organized under the leadership of the Associate Curator.

-Liaise with artists and organizations represented in related programs.

-Remain informed of current activities in contemporary art and practice through sustained research and exposure to cultural happenings, initiatives, and organizations, with the ultimate goal of making recommendations to senior staff.

-Perform any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

-Assist the Director and Senior Curatorial Staff with all manner of exhibition development, research, and coordination, including administrative work in the context of curatorial functions such as bibliographic and biographical research, publication research, preparation, and coordination, MoMA acquisitions, and other general curatorial inquiries.

-Actively promote and nurture strong intra-institutional working relationships between development, publications, special events, communications at both MoMA PS1 and the Museum of Modern Art.

-Liaises with artists and organizations represented in related programs

-Coordinates with the Registrar work that relates to the care of displayed artwork, and expedites arrangements for custodial, registration, and preparation work as required by the curators in the maintenance of gallery exhibitions.

-Performs research on subjects such as artists, periods, styles, etc., on specific works, locations of works, photograph sources, and answers related inquiries from the public and scholars with regard to such information.

-Assists in catalogue preparation, preparation of exhibition checklists and press releases, coordinating and scheduling work to be done within the Museum and without in such areas as conservation, photography, public information, matting and framing, construction, lighting, etc.

-Assists with the writing and installation of wall labels and text. Answers inquiries, and conducts some gallery tours as necessary for visitors.

vessel is an independent art space based in Bari (Apulia, Italy) offering an internship programme, from 1 to 8 months, for two bright and enthusiastic individuals with an interest in the contemporary art scene. Participants will gain valuable and marketable experience by working alongside project curators on research projects and events to further the cause of vessel.

Involvement

Interns will be involved in organizing and cataloguing artistic and curatorial materials, conducting research relevant to current and future projects, running local errands, performing clerical and administrative duties and other duties typical of a nonprofit space.

Applicants

This internship seeks to enroll candidates with a strong background in art/culture management, economics, human development, social science, environment, and private sector development as well as other related fields.

Fluency in English and excellent computer skills are required. Prior relevant work experience, as well as knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish and Italian are advantageous.

Commitment

As a new, nonprofit organization we are currently unable to offer salary to our interns but will provide an allowance towards travel expenses where appropriate. Interns have the option of residing in vessel project headquarters for a month-to-month fee or may independently seek housing elsewhere.

DESCRIPTION:
InterAccess seeks a motivated arts professional to step into the role of Programming Coordinator.

InterAccess was incorporated in 1983 as a non-profit, artist-run access centre, under the name Toronto Community Videotex. Today, InterAccess is Ontario's only gallery and production facility devoted exclusively to electronic media art. From its early incarnations as a non-profit, artist-run access centre in the mid-1980s to its current role as a global participant in electronic media art curation and exhibition, InterAccess has ambitiously explored artistic practices associated with interactivity; networked and remote connection; and experimental interfacing between the physical and virtual.

InterAccess has a mandate to present new media art by local, national and international artists. Currently the program promotes experimentation with conceptual models and contexts for visual art that have allowed the program to expand beyond gallery exhibitions to include cross-disciplinary works, site-specific and Internet projects, and co-productions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Programming Coordinator reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for:

Developing and communicating a dynamic vision for the Exhibitions Program
Research, studio visits, soliciting and reviewing submissions
Identifying international artists to complement local work
Curating exhibitions and all associated programming

Writing and editing publications
(including web and media releases)
Coordinating public events and receptions, talks, tours and screenings
Installation of exhibitions; coordination with artists and exhibition partners
Assisting with grants and seeking opportunities for sponsorship

Tracking and monitoring budget components related to program expenditures
QUALIFICATIONS 


BA/BFA required, MA/MFA an asset
Understanding of contemporary art practices

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Knowledge of French or a second language an asset)
Strong organizational skills
; detail oriented
Brings a high level of self-direction and initiative with strong time-management abilities
Ability to provide direction and work with a diverse staff, board and membership
High capacity to meet deadlines and work under pressure

A clear understanding of Canadian artist-run centres
Knowledge of managing publications and print projects (Graphic design experience an asset)
Experience installing a variety of art exhibitions

Experience making or presenting new media art

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
A technician and skilled volunteers support activities. Professional development and on-site training is provided. The following would be considered assets:

Good working knowledge of web languages: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (PHP an asset)
Experience with MySQL and FTP programs
Knowledge of common CMS systems, WordPress etc.
Knowledge of Internet Protocols, setting up local networks, setting up Internet connections for artworks
Working knowledge of common programs such as Arduino, Processing, Pure Data, and Max/MSP
Basic understanding of electronics and electronic fabrication
Advanced experience in Mac OSX and Windows (Linux an asset)
Experience with Adobe CS
Understanding of video codecs, resolutions, and projector/monitor requirements.
Knowledge of Final Cut Pro, FFMPEG (Other conversion and production programs an asset)

Basic construction and fabrication abilities

Bowdoin College Museum of Art seeks candidates with a specialization in the field of modern and/or contemporary art for the position of Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow. Together with the Director and curatorial staff, The Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow works to strengthen the academic role of the Museum's collections, facilitating the use of original works of art by faculty and students, and assists with public programming, exhibitions, publications, and acquisitions. The Bowdoin College Museum of Art, one of the oldest collegiate collections in the nation, recently reopened after a major renovation and expansion of its facilities. Housed in a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its encyclopedic collection consists of nearly 20,000 objects ranging in date from antiquity to the present. This position offers excellent benefits and a competitive salary. This is a three-year appointment.

Job Requirements
A recent Ph.D in art history with a specialization in modern and/or contemporary art is required. Applicants who will receive their Ph.D. by June 30, 2012 will also be considered. Broad knowledge of art history desired. Proven ability to work on multiple projects within a deadline-driven environment, and strong research, writing, and public speaking skills. Strong organizational and project management skills.

A minimum of one to two years working in a museum environment and demonstrated experience with object-based learning are required.

Under the direction of Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo (GAMeC) in Italy presents the fourth edition of QUI. ENTER ATLAS. International Symposium of Emerging Curators. This four-day symposium, held from November 18–21, 2011 at GAMeC, and open to the general public, is a discussion-based event accompanying the Lorenzo Bonaldi Award for Art – EnterPrize.

For every edition of QUI. ENTER ATLAS, the symposium's discussion topics, format and participants change. This year, the symposium is titled The Billiard Effect and centres on exhibition histories in the making. Participants present their work along with case studies of influential exhibitions held from 1989 to the present, which may include anything from exhibitions or permanent collections, art biennials, and solo- or group-exhibitions, as well as discursive-oriented programming series, event-based or long-term initiatives shaped by atypical curatorial practices.

This symposium is realized by Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, Curator for Contemporary Art at Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, and Alessandro Rabottini, Curator at Large, GAMeC.

Participants of The Billiard Effect include 14 curators under the age of 35 from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America; nine curators in this group were convened by the symposium organizers, and five curators were nominated by an external group of international advisors to participate as runners-up for the Bonaldi Award.

Emerging art curators working exceptionally at public institutions, non-profit spaces or independently, will share their curatorial projects, methods and research.

QUI. ENTER ATLAS. International Symposium of Emerging Curators intends to be an occasion for professional development, through an exchange of ideas and experiences between peers and together with an audience.

For these reasons, aside from the symposium, a weblog has been especially created: The Billiard Effect Blog is an editorial project by Francesco Garutti available on the website www.enteratlas-gamec2011.com. This weblog is conceived as a conversation platform to share and cross-reference contents explored in the for The Billiard Effect.

The symposium's closing event, on Monday, November 21st, is the Award Ceremony for the sixth edition of Lorenzo Bonaldi Award for Art – EnterPrize. An award unique in its genre, it grants project support to a young curator under the age of 30. The awarded curator is invited to present an exhibition next year at GAMeC.

The five curators participating in the symposium that are considered for the Award are: Fredi Fischli, Loren Hansi Momodu, Sohrab Mohebbi, Júlia Rebouças and Inti Guerrero.

The jury's members for the Lorenzo Bonaldi Award for Art – EnterPrize are: Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Director, GAMeC, Bergamo; Alex Farquharson, Director, Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham; and Viktor Misiano, Editor in Chief, Moscow Art Magazine, Moscow.

The Institution

M HKA is the internationally orientated contemporary art museum of the Flemish Community in Belgium. The museum exhibits, collects, researches and mediates contemporary art in its own facilities, which include the arthouse Cinema Zuid, and in dynamic collaboration with partners in and outside Flanders, such as the European L'Internationale network, which also comprises MACBA in Barcelona, Moderna Galerija in Ljubljana and Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven as well as the Július Koller Society in Bratislava and the KwieKulik Archive in Warsaw. M HKA is one of the European institutions behind the art journal Afterall, which is edited in London. M HKA's approach to art is experimental and research-orientated, which is not least reflected in the ongoing in-house development of the Ensemble Bank, a new digital tool for research, documentation and mediation. M HKA is an open house for artists and for the general public, with a comprehensive programme of educational activities and public events.


The Job

M HKA is looking for a full-time curator for the Presentation Department. The curator will report to the Head of Department and work alongside two full-time curators and in close collaboration with colleagues who are responsible for production, documentation, communication, mediation and the collection. M HKA is a medium-sized museum with a flat hierarchy and a collaborative, result-orientated working culture. The curatorial work includes coordinating temporary exhibitions, publications and public events, research and documentation within the Ensemble Bank, with publications and public events and developing and realising collaborations both in Flanders and internationally. The job is an excellent opportunity for an experienced younger professional to contribute to the development of a future-orientated public institution and to gain a broad range of specialised skills and in-depth insights in the field of contemporary art.
