The Senior Art Curator will oversee the TD Art Department and its collections, and will manage and work closely with the art coordinator to implement and maintain a strategy and vision for the collection, its outreach and its acquisitions strategy. This is a part time (2 days a week), 2 year contract position (renewable).

Reporting to the VP of Community Relations, the Senior Art Curator will:

Implement overall strategy for collection – acquisition and engagement
implement and adhere to collections mandate and vision
Implement a de-accession strategy for suitable works
Implement and adhere to department policies
Oversee preservation and safekeeping of the collection
work with the various real estate projects to acquire appropriate works for those locations
manage the administrative tasks of the art department
implement education strategies for staff, clients and public
staff and community engagement
community outreach and connection to museums, galleries and artists nationally
guide junior curatorial position
The Senior Art Curator is responsible for:

Developing an enterprise-wide corporate art policy for TD Bank Group that takes into account a range of factors including art market realities and TD's evolving real estate and premises' design policies. This includes an acquisition and de-accession strategy, collection management and ways TD can leverage our collection to support community relations, brand and business development objectives.

Lead by implementing an overall vision for the collection by effectively researching, selecting, recommending and purchasing all works to be included in the bank's art collection.

Executing the acquisition strategy by working with business partners including real estate, architects and interior designers, as well as the art committee, the curator will make recommendations for major purchases and acquire appropriate art for executive offices and other high profile locations and ensure the placement of high quality artworks throughout the bank.

Managing the collection by working with the art coordinator to arrange for the evaluation of the collection for insurance purposes, developing and executing a plan to dispose of images no longer seen as central or appropriate for the collection and ensuring images and other pieces in the collection are appropriately maintained and restored as necessary.

Leveraging the bank's art collection through programming, by overseeing, and promoting, the Inuit Gallery, identifying and developing opportunities to promote the art collection through loans, exhibits, educational programmes and other activities that showcase both individual pieces as well as the range and scale of the bank's collection.

Leveraging the reputation of TD as a collector and a supporter of the arts and the expertise of the curator through active community outreach including curatorial support for events, not-for- profit organizations and other programs, as well as development of art-related business development programs that support TD businesses, especially Wealth Management. This will include off-site evening events, tours of the collection, etc.

Maintain and improve standard of expertise by visiting galleries and exhibits on a regular basis; by reading journals and publications; by cultivating contacts and good working relations within the art community.

Oversee and control the accounting function for the art collections and the art department by ensuring accurate accounting and financial reporting for the fixed asset accounts; by analyzing variances and making recommendations to the Manager; by maintaining and reporting insurance evaluations; by preparing and monitoring expense plans; by maintaining up-to-date procedural manuals.

Qualifications:

MA in Art History, Museums Studies, or equivalent work experience
Curatorial experience at a gallery or museum level
Strong knowledge of the history of Canadian Art and Contemporary Art
Knowledge of American ArtKnowledge of the art market (Sales prices, auction results)
Strong connections to the Visual Arts community (Curators, dealers, artists)
Strong communication skills and public speaking
Strong administrative and organizational skills; knowledge of database management preferred
Knowledge of computer programs such as Word, excel, photoshop

The Curator for Art on Campus at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts is responsible for researching, developing, and acquiring site-specific public artworks in all media for Washington University in St. Louis. The Curator also plays an active role in designing public, academic, and educational programs in relation to Art on Campus and conceives scholarly literature about public art. The Curator will report to the Director of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum and participate in fundraising, develop relationships with donors and academic units, and engage in broader public relations. The Curator will contribute to the development and implementation of short- and long-range institutional goals. This position represents the Museum, the School, and the University locally, nationally, and internationally.

The mission of the new Art on Campus initiative is to commission, collect, and integrate works of art in all media as site-specific installations at indoor and outdoor public spaces on campus. Art on Campus aims to build an eminent collection of site-specific public art by nationally and internationally recognized artists that reflects the University's stature and the diversity of its people and intellectual activity. Artists considered as candidates for the Art on Campus program will have a significant and active national and international exhibition history.

Responsibilities include:

• Research, develop, coordinate, and acquire public art for Washington University's Danforth Campus in connection with its Art on Campus program
• Oversee public art projects for academic and non-academic buildings
• Engage the University and community-based audiences with thoughtful outreach and educational activities surrounding the public art collection
• Document the Art on Campus program and public art collection through interpretive and scholarly publications
• Leverage Art on Campus projects to create unique curricular opportunities for students to participate in the fabrication and installation of public art
• Distinguish Washington University as a public art "site lab" and develop a regional, national, and international identity in relation to public art
• Assist the Director and Chief Curator with the development of the permanent collection, including acquisitions, deaccessions, and collections management
• Assist the Director and Chief Curator in developing broad Museum support, including fundraising, donor relations, and public relations
• Participate in interdisciplinary initiatives for the Sam Fox School
• Develop relationships with peer institutions and artists
• Disseminate research through teaching, public lectures, and essays
• Research and write grants related to Art on Campus

Job Requirements
• Ph.D. in Art History with specialty in contemporary art, plus five years of curatorial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree required
• Demonstrated achievement in the acquisition and curatorial organization of public art projects and a record of scholarly publications
• Ability to collaborate with university faculty, museum staff, professional colleagues, and museum supporters

Salt Lake Art Center is currently pursuing a pioneering program of contemporary exhibitions designed to engage local residents while simultaneously participating in the national dialogue about and through contemporary art. The Art Center’s efforts to create a more permeable nexus with the community and the related flourishing of activity, referred to as the “Renaissance at the Salt Lake Art Center” by The Salt Lake Tribune, have led to a nearly six-fold growth in the Art Center’s audience in the last 18 months. Salt Lake Art Center is Utah’s museum of contemporary art, operating continuously since 1931.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Salt Lake Art Center seeks a dynamic and ambitious curator who wishes to organize, from conception to installation, five to 10 exhibitions annually that will continue our transformative dialogue with the local community and help us cement a position of regional and national prominence. The Senior Curator will also be expected to organize at least one off-site community initiative annually. The Senior Curator plays a leadership role in shaping the institution’s curatorial vision and philosophy and should have a successful record of exhibition development.

As the principle curatorial representative of the Art Center, the Senior Curator of Exhibitions will have occasional responsibility to speak with donors, local and national media, and at community events. The Senior Curator of Exhibitions will also be expected to coordinate the activities of the curatorial department with other departments inside the Art Center, including development and communications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The Senior Curator of Exhibitions must have deep knowledge of trends in contemporary visual art of the last twenty years, including video, transmedia, site-specific, and performative works, and the ability to apply this knowledge to create exhibitions that serve broader institutional goals. Superior organizational skills required to meet overlapping project deadlines. Excellent oral and written communications skills are essential. Strong contacts with colleagues, scholars, and artists in the national and international contemporary art community required.

Masters or M.F.A. in arts-related field and minimum of five to seven years of successively increasing curatorial experience preferred. Salt Lake Art Center is a non-collecting institution.

Reporting to the Curators of the Painting and Sculpture department, the Assistant Curator assists in the selection, research, development, planning, production, and interpretation of permanent collection and special exhibitions, both SFMOMA-organized and hosted. Under supervision, the Assistant Curator is responsible for managing the installation of the collection galleries. The Assistant Curator is also involved in supporting the accessions process, including writing reports for proposed acquisitions, drafting scripts for presentations, and coordinating the installation of proposed acquisitions. Additionally, the Assistant Curator conceives, organizes, writes publications for, and installs special and permanent collection exhibitions, as assigned. These exhibitions require that the Assistant Curator lead a team of co-workers drawn from the Registration, Conservation, Publications, and Exhibitions departments. The Assistant Curator is charged with the hiring and supervision of non-salaried curatorial internships, as well as the supervision of contract workers such as translators and special project assistants as needed. The Assistant Curator presents lectures and provides educational information including didactic materials, docent talks, etc. The Assistant Curator maintains advantageous relations with the art community, local as well as national, including artists, collectors, and prospective donors.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists the curators in the selection, research, development, exhibition, and interpretation of the department’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Conceives, organizes, prepares publications for, and installs special and/or permanent collection exhibitions.

• Heads and/or facilitates inter-departmental communication regarding exhibitions, working closely with departments of exhibitions, registration, installation, conservation, publications, and graphic design. Heads and/or facilitates external communication with artists, collectors, lenders, dealers, and staff members from other museums.

•Assists curators in the research and development of the SFMOMA collection and collections closely associated with the department and Museum.

• Assists with drafting and producing correspondence, loan forms, manuscripts, exhibition wall labels, memoranda, and other materials related to the permanent collection and special exhibitions. Maintains computer database of checklists for exhibitions. Assists with acquisition and exhibition research including, but not limited to: research and compilation of biographies, chronologies, and exhibition histories, and specific documentation of individual works.

• Primary liaison to the academic community regarding inquiries into the Permanent Collection. Schedules, orients, and accompanies scholars, curators, artists, and other visitors who wish to view and conduct research on permanent collection works.

• Supervises the work assignments and activities of interns, contract workers and volunteers.

• Acts as spokesperson for the department and the Museum as needed. Presents lectures and walk-throughs to visitors, docents, or other special groups.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: Possession of Master’s degree with major course work in Art History or equivalent. Reading knowledge of French and/or German a plus.
Work Experience: Three years related experience.
Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of art history and terminology, superb writing and diplomatic skills essential. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills a must: ability to prioritize and organize multiple activities, as well as supervise the activities of staff members around a common project. Ability to deal effectively with donors, artists, Museum staff, colleagues, and the general public, whether in person, on the telephone, or in writing.

Artes Mundi is looking for someone who intends to make a career in the visual arts to work as an intern alongside the Artes Mundi team. The intern will assist the Artistic Director, contributing to the curatorial and administrative aspects of the organisation. Opportunity - Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open

The Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open is now accepting submissions for its 2012 edition. This unique opportunity invites creative professionals from all fields to imagine and realise projects involving works from a contemporary art collection of international repute.

The Zabludowicz Collection launched its annual Curatorial Open in 2010 to encourage and support experimental curatorial practice. The Open invites creative professionals from all fields to engage with the collection by imagining ambitious projects which include a public exhibition, a publication and a programme of events to be realised in July and August 2012 at the Zabludowicz Collection in London. The Curatorial Open seeks to actively engage new voices in the discussion around works in the Zabludowicz Collection, encouraging points of view from a variety of disciplines and transcending the existing confines of contemporary art curating. The Zabludowicz Collection keenly welcomes transdisciplinary and experimental proposals.

This initiative builds on the Zabludowicz Collection’s existing commitment to experimental curatorial practices, which has resulted in projects with international curators and curating students, including Proposal for a Floor in New York with Alex Gartenfeld, The Library of Babel / In and Out of Place with Anna-Catharina Gebbers in 2010, Past-Forward with Vincent Honoré in 2008 and the annual Testing Ground programme produced in collaboration with the MA curating students from the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths College, London.

Deadline for submissions: 1 November 2011. Winner announced: January 2012.

The Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open is presented in association with Art Review.

The Zabludowicz Collection is dedicated to bringing emerging art to new audiences and actively supporting arts organisations and artists. It was founded by Poju and Anita Zabludowicz in 1994, and contains over 2,000 works by over 500 artists, spanning 40 years of art production, with a focus on art from the late 20th century to the present day. Since 2007 the collection has run an exhibition space in a former Methodist Chapel at 176 Prince of Wales Road in north London, working with artists, curators and works in the Zabludowicz Collection to produce exhibitions which examine contemporary art practice and present the collection in a public forum. The collection also exhibits in permanent venues in the USA and Finland.

Open 2011 - Call for Submissions from Curators

Brighton Photo Fringe is pleased to launch Open 2011, an experimental open submission platform for both photographic artists and curators.
Open to everyone everywhere, Open 2011 will be an international platform that enables artists and curators to work together to explore the possibilities of photography and exhibition formats.

Selected curators will work with Mentor curator Charlotte Cotton (writer and curator, Creative Director, National Media Museum, London) to develop an exhibition in dialogue with the selected artists.
